Decolonising Medicine Wkshp 2: Reframing access to colonial medical photography

  • London school of hygiene and tropical medicine Keppel Street London, England United Kingdom (map)

Following our webinar on Thursday 24 September, this workshop invites you to view and explore the LSHTM Archives’ collection of colonial medical photography albums containing images of people from Sri Lanka, Cameroon and pre-partition India.

Connie Bell, project consultant from Decolonising the Archive (DTA), will be present to guide the session using trauma informed and decolonial methods, and to listen and discuss thoughts, ideas and reflections on these colonial medical photograph albums. The collective input from the session will be central in creating a restorative future for the images.

Some of the images and their annotations may be distressing for participants. Attendees are free to navigate the space, go at their own pace and take a break or leave the event whenever suits them.

People experience images differently and we ask that everyone respects each other’s space and responses.
