This workshop provides a safe and sacred space for Black men and Black masculine folk to confront and heal from the wounds of patriarchal trauma and oppression. Grounded in the teachings of Bell Hooks and the work of Resmaa Menakem, this workshop offers a holistic approach to healing, deconstruction, and repair.

Objectives

  • Create a safe, creative, and engaging space for connection and expression by providing a supportive environment where participants feel comfortable sharing our experiences, emotions, and concerns.

  • Deconstruct patriarchal harms by examining the ways patriarchal systems have harmed Black men, disconnecting us from our emotional capacity, authenticity, community, and nature.

  • Offer tools for healing and integration by providing practical strategies and techniques to support our healing journeys, reconnect us with our wholeness, and cultivate a deeper sense of self-connection.

Workshop Approach

Drawing from the work of bell hooks and Resmaa Menakem, this workshop will incorporate:

  1. Somatic healing techniques: Participants will learn somatic practices that cultivate awareness of our bodily sensations, helping us release tension and trauma.

  2. Connection with nature: The workshop will explore the importance of nature in healing and spiritual growth, providing opportunities for participants to reconnect with the natural world.

  3. The feminine principle: We will examine the value of integrating the feminine principle into healing and personal growth, promoting balance, relationality, and wholeness.

Workshop Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  1. Understand the impact of patriarchal trauma and oppression: Gain insight into the ways patriarchal systems have affected Black men and our relationships with ourselves, our communities, and nature. Participants will also explore how patriarchy is inextricably connected to White supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism.

  2. Develop somatic healing skills: Acquire practical tools to navigate patriarchal stress, release tension, and cultivate greater emotional awareness and capacity.

  3. Take steps toward wholeness: Begin the ongoing process of healing, deconstruction, and repair while fostering a deeper connection with our full emotional landscape, our authenticity, our communities, and nature.

Target Audience

This workshop is specifically designed for Black men and Black masculine folk who are seeking a safe space to explore our experiences, emotions, and concerns. All are welcome, regardless of our level of familiarity with somatic healing or the topics of patriarchal trauma and oppression.
